Driver / Rigger

The Role: 
This is a full time, permanent position for an experienced driver who has an interest in working in the live event field.  You will need to have at least 2 years driving experience with an EU full clean drivers licence. The role will incorporate working at unsociable hours on a flexible rota to suit the business needs. The ideal candidate would be based locally in south east London and would be able to arrive at the warehouse for early morning / late night with ease.   When there is no driving to be completed the ideal candidate will help out in the warehouse to prepare jobs and check back in equipment.  There is opportunity within the business to develop from this role to a more technical role as you will often be on site helping to install events, in the warehouse or helping the stage set department.  We will provide technical training where necessary and actively support development within the company.

Your role will include but not be limited to:

  • Driving of 3.5 Tonne Sprinter vans in London, the UK and on occasion in Europe.
  • Working independently to ensure that all deliveries are carried out in a safe and timely manner paying particular attention to company guidelines and procedures.
  • Learning to set up live sound, projection, video or data on events of all sizes.
  • Assist with the day to day running of the warehouse when not out for deliveries.Helping to prepare events and keep the warehouse clean and tidy.
  • Ability to get to the Beckenham (BR3) office outside of normal working hours without the need for a taxi. Often late night and early morning starts will be required.

 Essential Requirements

  • 2 years’ experience of driving.
  • Full clean Driver’s License & ability to travel to warehouse out of hours
  • A well organised & calm approach to the job with attention to detail.

Scenic Production Manager 

We are Broadsword Event House, a creative event production agency. We innovatively design, carefully plan and expertly deliver immersive live event experiences. We offer total event production for every type of audience.

London based and Award Winning, we were crowned ‘Event Production Company of the Year’ by Event Magazine in 2017 for our contribution to ITV’s Big Think. We’ve worked with BIFA, The Economist, HSBC, Mind, The New York Times and Moody’s and delivered events across the globe.

We are currently recruiting a Scenic Production Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of our talented team.

You will be responsible for the management and production of designs and technical drawings, overseeing projects through from initial quotation to final delivery and leading teams onsite.

You must be proficient in Autocad and have an excellent working knowledge of construction techniques and large format print, preferably with a background in scenery for theatrical / television / live events. You must be keen to learn and develop your expertise continually, meticulous and thorough in your work and have excellent interpersonal skills. Due to the nature of the live events industry working hours will be flexible and will include evening and weekend work.

Job Description:

  • To contribute to the creative design process and produce technical drawings for scenic items
  • To be a point of contact for quoting and detailing scenic requirements including all scenic onsite crew 
  • To attend site visits and client meetings to ensure a practical overview to a project's scenic requirements 
  • To give scenic advice and help to Designers, Producers and Technical Production Managers
  • To help maintain planning visibility of all scenic requirements and to enforce agreed deadlines 
  • To organise and run all appropriately sized on-site installations and de-rigs as requested in a team leader role
  • To ensure the ordering and producing of PO’s for stock as well as job specific items and materials is completed
  • To ensure the ordering and producing of PO’s for appropriately skilled on-site as well as workshop freelance and crew carpenters is completed
  • To ensure the ordering and producing of PO’s for job specific print and graphics requirements is completed
  • Outsourcing job specific elements where appropriate

Essential Skills:

Understanding of health and safety in the live events industry

Production Manager

Broadsword are on the lookout for a charismatic Production Manager to join our growing band of energetic event professionals. 

We’d expect you to love listening and talking to people, finding solutions to implement cutting edge, creative production ideas. The world of live events is an exciting area in which to be involved; you’ll need to be adaptable, motivated and responsive, ‘a safe pair of hands’ for our customers and exceed expectations, time and time again.

You will be based in our Beckenham office and onsite as required. You will need to be flexible in working hours as working early mornings, late nights and weekends is part of the industry. 

The ideal candidate for this role will have a technical background within the AV industry and at least 2 years of production management experience in a similar role. We will also consider candidates from a technical manager role, venue management role or a similar position. 

Salary – Negotiable based on experience 

Main tasks of role: 

  • Attend Client meetings to discuss and develop solutions for the client brief 
  • Prepare quotes and pitch documents 
  • Attend site visits and production meetings 
  • Book crew, technicians, equipment and transport 
  • Support the Client pre event 
  • Assess health and safety requirements and create risk assessments and method statements for each event. 
  • Track the progress of each job and the documentation involved. 
  • Manage equipment, crew and transport on site and liaise with the venue and client on site at the event. 
  • Manage any changes that occur when on site 
  • Post event completion of costs, invoicing and all related paperwork 
  • Work with the team to constantly update equipment, processes and creative ideas. 
  • Manage relationships with key venues where we have an onsite presence. 

Essential requirements: 

  • Experience within the Audio-Visual industry or Event production industry in a technical role with 2 years of experience in a project management role or venue management role. 
  • Methodical, structured and self-motivated person with excellent organisational and prioritisation skills. 
  • A well organised and calm approach to the job with meticulous attention to detail. 
  • Wide experience of a range of audio and video equipment and new technologies within the industry. 
  • High level of computer literacy 
  • Excellent problem solver 
  • Excellent communication and client facing skills

Desirable Skills 

  • Experience of working in bespoke venues around London where standards and working practices are heavily scrutinised 
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Visio, and other visualisation software 
  • Experience of working with camera crews as an on-site director. A good understanding of editing techniques. 
  • Show calling experience for live productions. 
  • Use of CAD for drawing scaled plans. 
  • Sales experience with motivation to develop profitable new business.

Warehouse and Workshop Manager

We are currently recruiting a Warehouse and Workshop Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of our talented team.


As Warehouse and Workshop Manager you will be responsible for taking the lead across these areas of the business. You will ideally come from an AV company or production agency with experience of managing an AV warehouse environment. Knowledge of technical equipment is desirable. Candidates must be a team player and have the confidence to implement efficiencies and guide the wider team.

Your role will include but not be limited to: 

  • Overseeing the general management of the warehouse and workshop
  • Implementing efficiencies and organisation of the warehouse and workshop
  • Managing a team of warehouse technicians and schedule their time to ensure the warehouse is staffed appropriately
  • Managing equipment stock levels
  • Ensuring that the preparation of equipment for events is completed in a timely manner with a focus on quality and accuracy
  • Making sure that all check-ins of equipment are completed in a structured and timely manner, taking note of missing equipment, broken equipment and reporting this to the relevant managers
  • Work with the operations department to book crew to help load and unload trucks and assist warehouse technicians in busy periods
  • Overseeing the loading of vehicles ensuring the warehouse department and additional crew correctly load all items in a timely manner
  • Ensuring all sub-hired equipment is allocated to the correct event and once returned it is ready for collection in the required timeframe
  • Liaise with Production Managers
  • Ensure that the maintenance of equipment in the Warehouse and Workshop is carried out so that all items are in good working order
  • Complete yearly stock checks and PAT testing in the warehouse, office, workshop and Central London office
  • Keeping track of consumables needed for events and order additional items when required
  • Be responsible for stocking new equipment into our rental system
  • Work as a motivational force for all employees working in the warehouse and workshop, staying positive and reinforcing Broadsword values throughout your work
  • Ensure that all employees are working safely in the warehouse and workshop environment, complying with Risk Assessments and Method Statements, COSHH and fire safety
  • Continually look to implement and improve on procedures, methods and guidelines in the warehouse and workshop, responding quickly to change.

And any other reasonable tasks or duties as direct by your manager or senior member of staff.
