Martin Luther King Day

Posted by  Martin Walton on January 20, 2020

Today is Blue Monday according to The Internet, at least in this hemisphere.

The third Monday in January has been calculated to be the most depressing, given factors such as debt levels after Xmas, the weather, failed New Year resolutions and the fact that Xmas has now been added to the journals of Scrooge’s first ghost.

Americans however, don’t seem to have this phenomenon in their calendar. Instead, they are celebrating Martin Luther King Day which marks the birthday of the man who was instrumental in bringing about the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960’s.

Posted by  Alice Taylor on January 13, 2020
A wise man once said “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it”. Actually, that’s from the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, but we felt inspired to take a step back and look at what we achieved last year, which didn’t seem to feature many days off!

  • 14 brilliant people joined the family
  • Our first Mental Health First Aider within the team
  • One wedding, two babies and £1,054 raised for our nominated charity, Mind
Last year was such a success for Broadsword; here are our monthly highlights.

Broadsword’s caught the running bug!

Posted by  Matt Green on September 4, 2019

Common goals work wonders for camaraderie and collaboration. We decided back in May that we would enter a Broadsword team to do the Hyde Park 10k at the start of September to raise money for our nominated charity, Mind.

People are built to run.

But not everyone believes that they can do it. In the beginning, training can be brutal and within minutes everything hurts. Running takes time to break into. Starting slowly and building up gradually is the key.

Posted by  Anna Green on August 1, 2019

Today is Broadsword’s birthday!

Our fantastic Event Production Agency was incorporated on 1st August, 2006, by Founder, Bruce Teggart which makes us an incredible 13 years old. Was the name ‘Broadsword’ chosen as a reference to the film ‘Where Eagles Dare’ or a discussion in the pub about medieval weaponry? As Trebuchet was also considered then that might be a give-away!

Posted by  Anna Green on June 18, 2019

It’s never too late to try something new.

When asked to attend the second C&IT International Forum as a speaker, I was a little apprehensive. These were unchartered waters for me; I love conversation of course, but the responsibility to add value and contribute meaningful content, was rather daunting. Let’s face it: most of us experience public speaking butterflies, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. A little nervousness raises our level of performance but it’s important that the balance doesn’t tip from nerves to anxiety.
